august 15, 2002, 8:51 a.m. - laptop! Ee! Laptop!

Yes, yes, I know, I'm still being terrible about updating. *sigh* I don't know, I just... I miss my laptop. I'll do more diary stuff when my laptop comes back...today! EE!

Finally my baby is coming home to me! Finally we can go back to our happy life of spending the evenings together, my baby cradled in my lap, my fingers tapping out a gentle, tender rhythm against her, and her tiny little voice responding with clicks and beeps and electronic coos.

Oh, my friends, I have missed my laptop.

In other news, I got my First Checking Account Ever yesterday and wrote all of two checks. I am so darned proud of myself. I don't know quite why that is. Maybe it's because, you know, having a checkbook is one of those "grown up" type things I've always wanted to be able to do and the bank wouldn't let me till I turned 18. Turning 18, by the way, is another one of those grown up things I've always wanted to do. Well, now I've done it! Ha! AND I've gotten a checking account and a debit card.

Also yesterday, I got a lovely 100% cotton sweater, ribbed and dark brown that goes down to my knees and buttons or ties as I so desire. I know, I know, there goes all of my pretending to ignore current fashion. I just dig those sweaters, dude. Oh yeah.

Also also, I got new binders and pens. Woo for me! Woo for Costco, too, because they have the major school supplies going on at the low prices. So I spent yesterday evening decorating my binders.

Girrrllllyyyyy.

I know, it's horrid. But I did have a lot of fun. I chose an Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass illustration that seemed to fit each class and stuck it inside this vaguely Victorian-style border and wrote the name of the class underneath and then just printed 'em out and stuck 'em into the front of the binder.

You know, I have these memories of the "cool" girls in 4th grade (a group which I was most definitely not a member of) decoraing their binders. Painstakingly, slowly, day-by-day they would work on these things. Newspaper clippings, magazine clippings, drawings, photos, and the ocassional poorlywritten fourth-grade style poem would all come together to form this rather indistinct mass of color and text.

Well, not for me. I just do it the lame, easy way. But my binders look cooler than theirs ever did.

But, you know, I'm not still pathetically bitter against certain people from back in fourth grade who caused me to leave school in tears every day and eventually caused my parents to take me out of school altogether. oh no.

No, not me.

That really is pathetic, huh?

So, due to being all motivated to look seksay for school and much moreso for Thanksgiving (ee! 100 days!), I have lost a grand total of six pounds now. Go me. I'm all happy.

Only 100 days until Thanksgiving. Only 11 days until I'm back at school (oh happy thought!)

Tomorrow we're going down into double digits. Hee. I'm all about that, yo.

Listen to me. I sound so ghetto right now. I don't know what's going on....but you know, I think that in respect of that fact I'm going to stop torturing my one or two loyal diary readers and go read The Brothers Karamazov up by the front door so that there is NO WAY I can miss Airborne Express this time.

mmmm. Laptop, I'm waiting for you, belovedest!

Love,
Beth
